      so with sn0wbreeze can I unlock a 4s running iOS 5.1 ?

You need to update to 5.1.1 first then jailbreak using the info above with sn0wbreeze or use absinthe 2.2Also the info above about ultrasn0w not working on 5.1.1 Is incorrect. You CAN use ultrasn0w with iOS 5.1.1 but you need to install "Ultrasn0w fixer for 5.1.1" BEFORE you install ultrasn0w. Add source repo.iparelhos.com for Ultrasn0w fixer for 5.1.1

Sorry correction. I thought you said jailbreak not unlock. For iPhone 4s you need to purchase a "Gevey ultra s sim card. Purchase online or find a dealer near by. This will unlock your iPhone 4s

If your phone is already unlocked, will upgrading the firmware while preserving baseband keep the unlock or will you need to wait until there is an unlock for 5.1.1?

It will keep the unlock kind of as ur need to update ultrasnow from Cydia to work with 5.1.1 ultrasnow isn't updated yet thouStay away from the ultrasnow fixer for 5.1.1 it does work to unlock with iPad baseband but I found it buggy with most my apps not able to open after 1hr of use on 3gs

i guess its just one of them things then 1st safari wouldnt open witch i read is common for the 5.1.1 fixer so i just used skyfire instead then after awhile that wouldnt open plus cydia and a bunch of other appsi had to do a full restore and repeat the 5.1.1 fixer 3times in a day also reinstalled 06.15.00 baseband in the end i got fed up with it crashing and went back to 5.0.1 untill a new ultrasnow is out i even tried to boot with redsnow tethered as i read this can correct apps crashing but didnt helpalso i found that using a stock 5.1.1 with no bb i still couldnt actiavate even with correct sim phone just stuck on searching itunes says no sim and this is on stock 5.1.1 without ultrasnow even installed :-(

You guys must be noobs. The 5.1.1 fixer and ultrasn0w work fine on ios 5.1.1. No bugs, no crashes. I unlock iPhones as a second job. I have unlocked 33 iPhone 3GS's since the 5.1.1 untethered was released. Just do the steps in the correct order. Install the 5.1.1 fixer BEFORE installing ultrasn0w

Ludacris: if you have iPhone 4 and you update to 5.1.1 even with your baseband preserved you will still lose your unlock. For now. Preserving your baseband will make it so it can be unlocked again in the future when there is an exploit available for iPhone 4 but for now you WILL lose your unlock. (this info is only for iPhone 4 users on gsm)

I was on 5.1 with tethered jailbreak (by redsnow) with gevey unlock. Sn0wBreeze helped me to make the untethered jailbreak and upgrade firmware to 5.1.1 while preserving baseband. Phone is still unlockable with Gevey :)Thanks a lot guys!

All work fine my bb was preserved but after using ultrasn0w... net, signal, phone calls, wifi ok but no data because there no recognition of the Operator... any help?

I used to take out the SIM and after JB, I put on the non original SIM card (always work fine in that way)
